18 areas on danger alert; Los Baños seen hitting 50°C on Holy Wednesday

MANILA, Philippines — Eighteen areas in the Philippines are expected to experience scorching temperatures on Wednesday, April 16, the state weather bureau PAGASA said.
In its latest heat index bulletin, PAGASA reported that several areas are under the “danger” classification, with forecast heat index values ranging from 42°C to 50°C.
The station at NAS-UPLB in Los Baños, Laguna may experience temperatures reaching 50°C — the same extreme heat index recorded there on April 15.
Other areas under the “danger” classification include:
- NAIA, Pasay City: 42°C
- Tugegarao City, Cagayan: 42°C
- Iba, Zambales: 42°C
- Clark Airport, Pampanga: 42°C
- Coron, Palawan: 42°C
- San Jose, Occidental Mindoro: 42°C
- CBSUA Pili, Camarines Sur: 42°C
- Roxas City, Capiz: 42°C
- Iloilo City, Iloilo: 42°C
- La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental: 42°C
- Catarman, Northern Samar: 42°C
- ISU Echague, Isabela: 43°C
- Baler (Radar), Aurora: 43°C
- Hacienda Luisita, Tarlac City: 44°C
- Sangley Point, Cavite: 44°C
- Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas: 44°C
- San Idelfonso, Bulacan: 47°C
Other parts of the country are also under an "extreme caution" heat index, with temperatures ranging from 33°C to 41°C.
Some areas, meanwhile, are forecast to experience heat index levels within the "caution" range of 27°C to 32°C.
To prevent heat-related illnesses, PAGASA advised residents in affected areas to stay hydrated and minimize exposure to direct sunlight, especially during peak hours. The weather bureau also urged the public to avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
Cloudy skies, rains
Despite the scorching temperatures, easterlies may still bring cloudy skies and rains.
According to PAGASA, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the prevailing easterlies.
