MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian wants stronger and more coordinated action to eliminate bullying in schools, using the observance of National Safe Kids Week as a platform to underscore the need for safer learning environments.

In a statement yesterday, he called for a sustained campaign to protect learners from harassment and abuse within educational institutions.

“Bullying and oppression should no longer be part of students’ experience in school,” Gatchalian said.

Among the measures he cited were the continued teaching of Good Manners and Right Conduct, the mobilization of parents and school communities and the deployment of more guidance counselors or designated personnel.

He also emphasized the installation of additional CCTV cameras and the hiring of more security personnel as part of efforts to create safer school environments.

Gatchalian’s remarks come as the country marks Safe Kids Week, which highlights the importance of child protection, both in schools and the broader community.

“Let’s create schools where children can learn without fear,” he added.
