MANILA, Philippines — A Guinness World Record is being sought for this year’s Alay Lakad pilgrimage in Antipolo, Rizal.

“It is our plan to apply for the Guinness World Record for the category of having the ‘Largest Gathering for a Walking Spiritual Pilgrimage in 12 Hours,’ from 6 p.m. of Maundy Thursday to 6 a.m. of Good Friday,” Antipolo Bishop Ruperto Santos said yesterday.

Santos has encouraged the Catholic faithful to participate in the 17-kilometer pilgrimage walk to the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo City.

Citing Rizal police data, Santos said 7.4 million people joined the pilgrimage to Antipolo Cathedral last year.

Donations from devotees would help build the Chapel of Our Lady of Antipolo in Tanay, Rizal.

In 2024, Antipolo Cathedral collected over P100,000 in donations.
