MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos remains healthy and is energetic during meetings, Malacañang said yesterday, after social media posts circulated claiming that his gums were bleeding during a public event.

The posts, which have gone viral, contained Radio Television Malacañang feed of Marcos’ speech last Wednesday at Camp Aguinaldo, wherein he honored the families and beneficiaries of slain soldiers and police officers and talked about the comprehensive social benefits program.

The video that supposedly showed Marcos’ bleeding gums raised questions and triggered speculations about the 67-year-old President’s health.

But Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro gave assurance that Marcos remains physically fit and focused on his duties.

“The President is healthy. We just met earlier. Whatever that issue is, we are belying that,” the Palace press officer told The STAR during an interview for the online show “Truth on the Line.”

Castro said she has not asked Marcos whether he has illnesses, saying she does not have a right to do so. But she maintained that the President would not be capable of joining early morning meetings if he were not healthy.

“For me, I saw him physically, face-to-face. His health is in good condition,” Castro said.

“When we hold meetings, he is energetic. He is focused on everything the Cabinet member says, especially whether something is doable, how it can be done, how it can be funded... He is focused on that. He is not the sleepy type during meetings. So based on my observation, I don’t see him as someone not healthy,” she added.

Aside from his visit to Camp Aguinaldo, Marcos had two other public engagements on April 9 – the commemoration of the Day of Valor in Bataan and the launch of the national food fair in Mandaluyong.
