MANILA, Philippines — The official Facebook account of the Bureau of the Treasury has been hacked, with the extent of the security breach still being probed.

At around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, a Facebook story was posted on Treasury’s Facebook page containing a suggestive image.

It also came with a link that, when clicked, leads to a website with potential harm.

In an advisory minutes later, the Treasury said that its Facebook page has been compromised and that it has no access to the account.

At around 11 p.m., the Treasury said that it had regained access to the Facebook account.

“We have yet to fully assess the extent of the security breach,” the Treasury said.

Still, the Treasury advised the public to disregard any posts, messages or announcements from the page until further notice.

In a Viber message yesterday morning, national treasurer Sharon Almanza said the investigation is still ongoing.

The Treasury is mandated to manage the financial resources of the government by maximizing revenues from available funds and minimizing costs of financing whenever possible.
