MANILA, Philippines — More than a month before he steps down from office, President Duterte claimed that he served the entire nation “irrespective of each tribal division,” citing projects that he said benefited all areas, including those that did not install him to the presidency.

Speaking during the launching of the digital innovation efforts of the Philippine Postal Corp. last Thursday, Duterte said his administration’s work is “almost done” and thanked those who supported him during his presidency.

“Let me, from the bottom of my heart, express my gratitude to you all for allowing me to journey the presidency for six years,” he said.

“I know that the Filipinos voted for me. Let’s not talk about those who did not vote for me. I served the country irrespective of each tribal division,” he added.

Duterte said his administration allocated infrastructure funds equally to all regions.

“When I was President, I really said distribute the money equally to all regions, whether I won in that place or not,” Duterte said.

“You can now see in the Philippines, everywhere... there’s an infrastructure... Those are the things, small things. If you expect more, I’m sorry, I only managed to reach that point. But still, I am very grateful to you for making me President of the Republic of the Philippines,” he added.

At the same event, Duterte expressed hope that the next administration would continue measures that would improve government services.

“In the past six years, this administration has introduced reforms to further empower government instrumentalities in ensuring the seamless delivery of basic services – all to build a more inclusive and sustainable Philippines,” Duterte said.

“In fulfillment of this administration’s Ease of Doing Business agenda beyond my term, I hope that you will constantly explore innovations and strategies that will further streamline, develop and improve government services to the people for greater efficiency. May our pursuit for change and progress never cease to gain more momentum in the coming years, under the new leadership,” he added.
