Go renews call for unity among Filipinos

Cecille Suerte Felipe - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — As the winners in the May 9 elections become known, the Filipino people should respect the majority’s decision and rally behind the incoming administration that will hopefully build on the gains of the Duterte administration, according to Sen. Bong Go.

“Let us all unite under one flag towards a safer, better and more progressive Philippines,” Go said.
“We cannot let our differences destroy us and prevent us from further building a great nation,” he added

The senator stressed that the successful conduct of the elections is a clear indication that democracy is alive in the country, as he called on Filipinos to unite and support the next administration.

“It has been a little more than one week since we concluded the 2022 national and local elections in the country. Last May 9, our people marched to their respective precincts to perform their right of suffrage. Democracy is indeed alive in the Philippines as ordinary Filipinos chose our nation’s next leaders,” Go said.

“I am happy that the elections had been successful and generally peaceful. While some election-related violence and incidents are being reported, be assured that the government is on top of the situation and will bring justice in order to uphold the sanctity of this democratic exercise,” he added.
President Duterte’s transition team has been formed after the President signed Administrative Order 47 last May 10.
Go reassured Filipinos that the Duterte administration has started the transition process to ensure a smooth transfer of power to the next leaders.

He also expressed hope that the next administration will continue the Duterte legacy of providing a more comfortable life for all.
“With the support and cooperation of our citizenry, we pray that the next term will continue to provide a safer and more comfortable life for all. Do not forget that the government’s success is the success of every single Filipino,” Go said.

“Now that the people have spoken, we must set aside our differences. Now is a real opportunity to unite. Our country needs our solidarity more than ever,” he added.
The administration senator also reiterated the importance of continuing the reforms and programs initiated by the Duterte administration, particularly the Build, Build, Build program and the fight against corruption and illegal drugs.

“I would like to congratulate all the incoming elected national and local officials. Remember your mandate as public servants to put the interest of your constituents above all else,” he said.
“I would like to emphasize the need to continue the programs and reforms initiated by President Duterte that continue to benefit the Filipino people. As

I have mentioned before, the election is not only about choosing the next leaders who will help chart the future, but also about continuing the positive changes that were brought by the administration before them,” he added.
Go emphasized that he is also committed to remaining steadfast in promoting the interests and welfare of Filipinos.

“As for President Duterte and I, we continue with our promise to serve in any capacity that we can. While the President has already announced that he is readying himself for more private life in Davao City, I am certain that he will continue with his personal advocacy to help other people in need,” he said.

The senator wished the next leaders of the country the best of luck in the years to come.
“To my fellow Filipinos, now is indeed the time to reach out to one another despite the elections’ outcome. The polls that we had only happened  in one day, yet the real challenge is to sustain our gains and momentum for the next six years.

We cannot let our differences destroy us and prevent us from further building a great nation,” he said.
“As a senator and a Filipino, I am excited to see what the next administration can bring to the table. I assure everyone that I will not stop listening to your concerns. As always, you can count on me to be your voice in the legislature,” he added.
