Go hails heroism, contribution of Pinoy nurses

Paolo Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go on Thursday hailed the heroism and contribution of Filipino nurses both in the country and abroad in fighting the pandemic.

In his address before the Senate committee on civil service, Go cited Filipino nurses as he tackled his Senate Bill 395 or the proposed Advanced Nursing Education Act that seeks to improve the profession through relevant education, humane working conditions and better career prospects for Filipino nurses.

He said Filipino nurses, due to their competence and caring nature, are sought-after even in other countries, thus contributing significantly to the Philippine economy.

“Filipino nurses are known for that innate capability and empathy in caring for others,” Go said in Filipino, adding most families in the country have a nurse as a member or relative.

He added that demand for Filipino nurses in many parts of the world continues to surge due to their good traits and reputation.

Go reiterated the need for a more standardized and advanced nursing education program that will give nurses more competence and better career opportunities.

His Senate Bill 395 requires the establishment of standard basic and graduate programs for nursing education, to be established in institutions accredited by the Commission on Higher Education.
