Ex-mayor Tom gets COVID-19

Sanden J. Anadia - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Former Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmeña has announced Sunday through his social media account that he is positive of COVID-19.

He said he had “mild chills” yesterday morning.

"It is my responsibility in the interest of transparency to inform you that I felt mild chills this morning and just tested positive for COVID," the former mayor said in a Facebook post.

Osmeña, however, said that his housemates were not affected by the disease.

He is keeping in touch with individuals he has met recently.

"The good news is that so far no one else in the household has tested positive, so I will be isolating myself in a separate room until doctors tell me it is safe to do otherwise. We are in touch with the people I have come into, recent contact with as well," Osmeña added.

The former mayor’s home is temporarily off limits to visitors.

"Of course, as a precaution we cannot accept visitors in our house until everyone here is no longer in danger of transmitting the virus to someone else," he added.

Aside from the mild chills, Osmeña revealed he had never experienced any other symptoms.

"Please don't be worried, I will be fine. Pulse Oximeter is reading 97-98, and other than the mild chills, I'm feeling ok. No other symptoms," last part of his social media post.

While his wife, former councilor Margarita Osmeña, thanked the people who conveyed concern to them.

"Tommy is the strongest person I know. He is taking it in good spirit and as always has appetite. Thank you for your concern, everyone!" the former councilor said. — GMR (FREEMAN)
