More Pfizer, AstraZeneca jabs arriving this week
MANILA, Philippines — More than one million doses of US-made Pfizer vaccines arrived in the country last night to further boost the government’s COVID-19 vaccination program.
Officials said 1,082,250 doses of Pfizer jabs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 from the COVAX Facility.
Some 255,200 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca will arrive today at the NAIA Terminal 1. Another 698,000 AstraZeneca jabs will be arriving in Manila tomorrow on a China Airlines flight.
The AstraZeneca vaccines were procured by the private sector.
National Task Force against COVID-19 chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. said about 46 million vaccine doses would arrive in Manila this month.
The government aims to administer seven million COVID-19 jabs during the second round of the vaccination campaign set next week, according to the Department of Health.
“We are targeting around seven million recipients for second dose so we can achieve the goal to fully vaccinate 54 million people by the end of the year,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said.
