Go seeks divine providence on his presidential bid
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go yesterday declared that he continues to seek guidance from divine providence in his decision to enter the presidential race as he vowed to continue serving the Filipino people selflessly and tirelessly.
“Whatever my decision will be, I will leave it to God. Whatever is good for the country,” Go said in Filipino.
“The presidency is a matter of destiny. If it’s for you, it will be for you,” he added.
He said he does not want to burden President Duterte and their supporters. “I love President Duterte. He is old now and I don’t want to give him more problems.”
Go, standard-bearer of the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan, was a last-minute candidate for the presidency, having filed his certificate of candidacy shortly before the Nov. 15 substitution deadline.
“I was a candidate for vice president for about 40 days until the unexpected happened. I don’t want to hurt the President and his family so I gave in to run for president,” Go said.
He added that running for president has never been his dream, but he is willing to make the supreme sacrifice, saying he only accepted the challenge after a decision was arrived at by the President and the party.
“But in the past few days, I realized that my heart and mind are contradicting my own actions. I’m just human and I can get tired,” he admitted.
The presidential aspirant, fondly called “Mr. Malasakit,” thanked the President for the moral support that gives him the strength to pursue his fight.
The lawmaker also expressed gratitude to his supporters as he assured them that he would be there, ready to give genuine public service to everyone.
