MANILA, Philippines — The heat index or the temperature as felt by the human body hit 52 degrees Celsius in Dagupan City, Pangasinan yesterday.

This was the highest heat index recorded in the country so far this year, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

It surpassed the 51 degrees Celsius registered in the area on May 8.

In Metro Manila, the heat index hit 41 degrees Celsius yesterday (Wednesday).

PAGASA said a heat index of 41 to 54 degrees Celsius could trigger heat cramps and heat exhaustion which could lead to heat stroke with continued activity.
