Motorcycle crimes drop by 57.93 percent – PNP
MANILA, Philippines — Operations of motorcycle-riding criminals during the community quarantine went down by 57.93 percent, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported yesterday.
PNP deputy chief for administration Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said 784 crimes by motorcycle-riding suspects were recorded in the past 220 days of the community quarantine, compared to 1,864 during the same period before the government imposed lockdown measures to contain the coronavirus disease.
Eleazar attributed the downtrend to the increased presence of police officers on the streets and quarantine measures which restricted the movement of criminals.
The security measures, especially increased police visibility, have reduced motorcycle thefts to 62.29 percent from 2,427 to 915, Eleazar added.
