26 more Filipinos abroad test positive for COVID-19, with total now at 11,178

MANILA, Philippines — Foreign affairs officials on Tuesday said 26 more Filipinos abroad have contracted the coronavirus, pushing the total to now at 11,178. 

The DFA said in its daily bulletin that the new Filipino patients came from the Americas, Asia and the Pacific as well as in the Middle East. 

Three more deaths were also reported, which brought the number of fatalities to 815, while recoveries are now at 7,234 with 33 more getting better. Some 3,129, meanwhile, are still receiving treatment, the agency said. 

The Middle East remains with the most number of Filipinos abroad infected with the deadly virus at 7,369 cases, with 532 deaths and 4,542 recoveries. 

Asia follows with 1,779 infections, nine deaths and 1,259 recoveries. Europe, meanwhile, has some 1,215 cases, 95 fatalities and 952 recoveries. 

The Americas in its 10 countries, account for 815 virus cases, along with 179 deaths and 481 recoveries. 

Across the globe, there are now more than 40.4 million infected with the COVID-19, months since the World Health Organization declared it a pandemic. Deaths have reached over 1.1 million, with the United States leading in both infections and fatalities. 

The Philippines is currently in the 20th spot in the list of countries with the highest number of cases. 

Recently, however, Indonesia overtook the country with the most infections in Southeast Asia, with some 4,400 difference. — Christian Deiparine
