9 contract COVID-19 in gym sessions with health worker

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines — Nine fitness enthusiasts who were exposed to a health worker during sessions in a gym in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya were found positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The Nueva Vizcaya Health Office said the carrier, a 30-year-old health worker assigned at the COVID ward of a hospital, had prior exposure to a patient who died of complications last week.

The health worker reportedly had symptoms of sore throat and fever when he underwent swab testing on Aug. 23.

Most of the nine who contracted the virus also experienced symptoms and had their swab specimen examined last Aug. 28, which turned up positive.

Health authorities were apprehensive of more contamination since among the nine who contracted the virus from the health worker was the driver of the gym owner.

The nine gym enthusiasts were among 19 new coronavirus cases disclosed by the Provincial Health Office Monday.
