QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Three Quezon City councilors have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 a week after Mayor Joy Belmonte was infected with COVID-19.

Councilor Candy Medina of the sixth district announced yesterday that she tested positive for the virus.

Two other councilors have yet to issue statements.

Medina said contact tracing is being conducted to monitor those who had contact with her in the past days.

The local government shut down yesterday the legislative building at the city hall complex after the councilors and several staff members tested positive for the virus. The building will be closed until July 19.

“The Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit will conduct contact tracing and follow-up testing,” read the advisory. “Everyone is encouraged to remain calm and vigilant as we continue to fight COVID-19.”

Last week, Belmonte confirmed that she tested positive for the virus.

Various areas of the city hall were disinfected. The local government did not suspend operations as not all employees had direct contact with the mayor.
