Tropical depression Carina moving away from Philippines

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Carina moved away from the country yesterday after dumping heavy rains over most parts of Luzon on Monday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) lifted all tropical cyclone wind signals in Northern Luzon as of 5 p.m. yesterday.

However, PAGASA said the coastal areas in extreme Northern Luzon may still experience intermittent gusts.

As of 4 p.m., the center of Carina was spotted at 140 kilometers west northwest of Basco, Batanes, packing winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

It was moving northwest slowly.

Carina was forecast to weaken into a low pressure area last night or this morning.

PAGASA also warned against moderate to rough seas of up to 3.1 meters high over the seaboards of Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands and Isabela in the next 24 hours.

“Those with small sea craft are advised not to venture out to sea,” the weather bureau said.

Carina is the third tropical cyclone to enter the country this year and the first weather disturbance this month.

PAGASA has predicted two to four cyclones to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this July.
