MANILA, Philippines — To provide transportation for more workers, a labor group has launched the “share a spare bike” campaign.

Defend Jobs Philippines called on the public to give or lend spare bicycles to workers who are having difficulty traveling to work due to the lack of mass transportation in Metro Manila and other areas.

“Let us show some care and love to our working class by sharing your spare bikes for them,” the labor group posted on Facebook.

The labor group noted that amid the community quarantine, thousands of workers get stranded or suffer through the daily commute just to report for work.

Those interested to donate their spare bikes may coordinate with the labor group.

The Department of Health (DOH) said bicycles can be both good as a mode of transport and exercise promoting health during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The DOH stressed the need to balance safety against COVID-19 and making available public transport as the country transitions to the new normal.
