Ferro: 35 COVID-infected cops doing well

CEBU, Philippines — The 35 policemen who tested positive for COVID-19 are all doing well, said Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro.

“Most of them are in good health,” the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Central Visayas director said.

The asymptomatic cops under the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) are currently isolated at the Don Vicente Rama Memorial National High School.

Ferro said the cops were also subjected to second swab testing.

One of them—a Mabolo Police Station officer who first contracted the coronavirus—has already tested negative in a subsequent test, said Ferro.

The results of the 34 others, however, are yet to be released. They were tested yesterday.

Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, CCPO chief, said the cops have been showing "good health dispositions and are also in high morale despite their situation."

He said the policemen will continue undergoing psychological therapy to “keep their mental health in check.”

The policemen are being monitored by the Regional Health Service Unit.

Meanwhile, PRO’s Makatao Malasakit Recovery Center in Barangay Taptap, Cebu City was blessed in a simple ceremony yesterday.

The facility is dedicated to house the police personnel and other frontliners who tested positive for COVID-19.

"This is secluded area meant to isolate infected individuals away from crowded areas and population,” Ferro said in his speech during the ceremony.

Present in the ceremony were Mayor Edgardo Labella and Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Deputy Mike Pato.

PRO-7 last night held a dry run for the transfer of the infected cops to the facility, which is now fully operational.

The facility can accommodate up to 47 patients.   (FREEMAN)
