MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Service Commission (CSC) yesterday urged the heads of government agencies from national offices down to local government units (LGUs) to consider “sleep at work” arrangements for state workers.

CSC Commissioner Aileen Lizada said there are available spaces in government offices such as function rooms and training halls that can be used as part of support mechanisms for employees.

“Other government offices have dormitories,” Lizada said in an interview on dzBB.

She said such scheme would help government employees keep up with new work arrangements in areas under the enhanced, modified or general community quarantine.

“They can convert available spaces into sleeping quarters so the employees who are willing to stay inside need not commute to work,” she said.

Lizada noted that government offices may also deploy coasters, buses and vans to transport workers to and from their homes so the workers will not have to join the rest of the commuting public.

She also recommended that heads of agencies consider hiring jeeps or buses to provide shuttle services.
