P4 million shabu seized at Taguig checkpoint

MANILA, Philippines — A day after police suspended the war on drugs to focus on quarantine checkpoints to contain the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), an estimated P4 million worth of shabu was seized from a drug suspect in Taguig at dawn yesterday.

Glierto Lagunzad, 29, was apprehended at a COVID checkpoint at the corner of Maharlika Road and A. Bonifacio Avenue in Barangay Upper Bicutan, according to Metro Manila police chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas.

Lagunzad allegedly yielded 600 grams of shabu.

Sinas was dismayed that people like Lagunzad took advantage of the public health crisis to carry out illegal activities.

“This is the reason why the police were not deployed to the

boarders of Metro Manila but rather, they were retained in their

areas of responsibility to continue anti-crime operations,” Sinas said.

Lagunzad is being held by police on drug charges.
