MANILA, Philippines (Updated 6:49 p.m.) — All Ayala Malls will be closing operations starting Monday, March 16 until further notice, their official Facebook page confirmed.

According to Ayala Malls, its establishments offering basic services such as supermarkets, drugstores and convenience stores will remain open.

This comes after President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday hoisted Code Red Sub Level 2 directing a community quarantine over Metro Manila.

The company's malls include Alabang Town Center, Glorietta, Greenbelt, U.P. Town Center, Ayala Malls The 30th and Ayala Malls Vertis North, among others.

"In compliance with the directive of Metro Manila LGUs on General Community Quarantine, please be guided on the temporary closure of Ayala Malls in Metro Manila effective tomorrow, March 16, 2020," Ayala Malls wrote in a Facebook post.

"However, we are keeping key establishments open to continue serving your essential needs. Thank you for your support and understanding."

In a separate advisory, SM said that "in light of recent events," the SM Store will be closes in the following SM malls:

  • East Ortigas
