Inclement weather seen over North Luzon due to Perla

MANILA, Philippines — Some parts of Northern Luzon may experience inclement weather this weekend due to Tropical Depression Perla, state meteorologists warned yesterday.

Perla developed from a low-pressure area into a tropical depression at around 8 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

No tropical cyclone wind signal has been raised as of 5 p.m. yesterday.

PAGASA senior weather forecaster Chris Perez said Perla was still very far from Philippine landmass and has no direct effect on any part of the country yet.

However, it was expected to bring “adverse weather condition” over Batanes, Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands, and Apayao starting tomorrow night or Saturday morning, PAGASA said.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the center of Perla was estimated at 1,005 kilometers east of Tuguegarao, Cagayan.

It packed winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

Perla was expected to remain a tropical depression in the next two days and weaken into a low-pressure area this weekend, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said.
