MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has claimed that cursing is part of his identity but for his spokesman, the habit is also an indicator that everything is fine with the Chief Executive.

“For as long as he curses, his body remains healthy,” according to presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo.

Panelo made the remark over dwIZ last Friday when asked about the condition of the President.

Duterte has drawn flak for his gutter language but the President justified his manner of speaking, saying he was not schooled in statesmanship.

In a television interview three years ago, Duterte said those who have issues with his foul mouth should go to God to complain.

During his meeting with the Filipino community in Russia this month, Duterte revealed he has myasthenia gravis, a nerve malfunction that he said he inherited from his grandfather.

Panelo has claimed the President remains healthy and myasthenia gravis is a common illness among the elderly.

The 74-year-old Duterte has also admitted to suffering from acute bronchitis, migraine related to a spinal injury, and Buerger’s disease, an illness tied to smoking.

In the same radio interview, Panelo could not say whether Duterte would visit the United States, a traditional ally and treaty partner of the Philippines.
