Satisfaction with Duterte dips – SWS

MANILA, Philippines – The number of Filipinos satisfied with President Duterte dropped slightly in the third quarter of 2019, according to the latest survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS).

The survey, conducted from Sept. 27 to 30 with results released yesterday, found that 78 percent of the 1,800 adult respondents were satisfied with Duterte as President.

Thirteen percent said they were dissatisfied with the President, while nine percent were undecided.

This gave Duterte a net satisfaction rating of “very good” at +65, which is three points lower than the record-high “very good” at +68 – or 80 percent satisfied, 12 percent dissatisfied – that he obtained in the second quarter survey conducted in June.

The net satisfaction rating is the rounded off difference between those who said they are satisfied and dissatisfied with the performance of the President.

Despite the dip in Duterte’s satisfaction rating, Malacañang welcomed the results even as it maintained that the President does not give importance to his popularity.

“While the President would simply shrug off his survey numbers, saying he is not interested in any popularity contest relative to his governance because with or without a soaring satisfaction rating, he is unaffected and will just continue to do his constitutional task of serving and protecting the people, even at the loss of his life, liberty and honor,” presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

He said the decrease in the President’s satisfaction rating was insignificant, considering that the survey used a national sampling error margin of ±2.3 percent.

“In fact, the independent pollster classified PRRD’s June and September ratings as ‘very good’,” the presidential spokesman said.

Based on the survey, the three-point decrease in Duterte’s satisfaction rating was due to decreases in balance Luzon and Mindanao, combined with increases in the Visayas and Metro Manila.

Duterte’s net satisfaction rating fell 11 points but stayed “very good” among respondents in balance Luzon in September, fell five points but stayed “excellent” in Mindanao and it rose from “very good” to “excellent” in the Visayas.

Duterte’s net satisfaction also increased among respondents in Metro Manila, staying “very good” from +59 or 73 percent satisfied and 14 percent dissatisfied, to +66 or 78 percent satisfied and 13 percent dissatisfied, correctly rounded.

Net satisfaction with the President fell both among respondents from urban and rural areas, from +67 to +66 and from +68 to +64, respectively.

By class, gender

Based on socio-economic class, the net satisfaction of the President fell among respondents belonging to Class E but remained in the “very good” range at 81 percent satisfied and 13 percent dissatisfied in June, to 73 percent satisfied and 16 percent dissatisfied in September which still falls under “very good.”

It also fell by two points among those in Class D, from +68 or 79 percent satisfied and 11 percent dissatisfied, to +66 or 79 percent satisfied and 13 percent dissatisfied; while among Class ABC it increased from “very good” at +58 or 76 percent satisfied and 18 percent dissatisfied, to “excellent” at +70 or 79 percent satisfied and nine percent dissatisfied.

Duterte’s net satisfaction rating slightly fell among men and women respondents, from +67 to +66 and from +69 to +64, respectively.

Age, education background

The survey also showed that the President’s net satisfaction rating fell 10 points among respondents aged between 35 to 44 years old; down eight points for those between 25 to 34 years old; and falling two points for those 55 years old and above.

It increased by two points among those aged between 45 to 54 years old, and up seven points between those aged 18 to 24 years old.

Duterte’s net satisfaction rating also fell by four points among non-elementary graduates; down two points with elementary graduates; and seven points with high school graduates.

Meanwhile, the President’s satisfaction rating increased among college graduates by four points.

The survey had 1,800 adult respondents and a margin of error of +/- 2.3 percent for national percentages. Alexis Romero??
