MANILA, Philippines — The tropical depression outside the Philippine area of responsibility that PAGASA is monitoring is expected to enter the country's jurisdiction within 48 hours.

It will be assigned the local name "Marilyn."

In its 4 p.m. weather forecast, the state weather bureau said that the tropical depression was located 1,620 km east of southern Luzon.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gusts of 70 kph. It is moving northeast at 25 kph.

In its tropical cyclone advisory issued at 11 a.m. Wednesday, PAGASA said the trough of the tropical depression and the southwest monsoon would bring scattered light to moderate rains with at times heavy rains (during thunderstorms) over Mindoro Provinces, Romblon, Marinduque, northern portion of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Island), Visayas and Bicol.

PAGASA expects the weather disturbance to strengthen into a tropical storm by Thursday morning and into a severe tropical storm by Sunday morning.
