Ex-Pangasinan solon Espino now in stable condition
MANILA, Philippines — Former Rep. Amado Espino Jr. (Pangasinan), who is also a former governor of the province, is now in stable condition after an ambush Wednesday afternoon that killed all five of his bodyguards.
"Cong Ama is alive and stable," local radio station DWCM Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan reported on its Facebook page.
In a tweet by Sen. Richard Gordon, he said the victims were all riding a Toyota Inova when the incident happened.
"All 5 of his bodyguards heroically shielded Espino with their bodies and they all perished," Gordon said, adding that Amado was brought to the hospital in the province where he was fighting for his life.
The victims were all riding a Toyota Inova van with no back-up. This is completely unacceptable in this day and age, yet it happens with impunity. The police should be able to track down the perpetrators if they act fast. pic.twitter.com/o27ChdZYlB
