MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area east of Visayas developed into a tropical depression and is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility Wednesday.

The tropical depression will be named “Marilyn” once it enters the country’s jurisdiction, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The weather disturbance was last spotted 1,180 kilometers east of Visayas packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour and gusts of up to 55 kph.

It is barely moving but it is expected to enter PAR anytime on Wednesday.

Residents of Eastern Visayas, Bicol region, Quezon and Aurora will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the trough or extension of the tropical depression.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continues to affect Zambales and Bataan. Those living in the two provinces will also experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
