Signal No. 1 over Metro Manila, most of Luzon due to 'Jenny'

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No 1. has been raised in Metro Manila and many other areas in Luzon as Tropical Depression Jenny westward off the Bicol region, PAGASA said in its early morning severe weather bulletin Tuesday.

Residents of areas under TCWS No. 1 should anticipate winds of 30-60 kilometers per hour or intermittent rains in at least 36 hours.

The following areas in Luzon have been placed under TCWS No. 1:

  • Cagayan
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Apayao
  • Abra
  • Kalinga
  • Mountain Province
  • Ifugao
  • Benguet
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Aurora
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Tarlac
  • Zambales
  • Bataan
  • Pampanga
  • Bulacan
  • Metro Manila
  • Rizal
  • Northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands
  • Cavite
  • Laguna
  • Camarines Norte
  • Northeastern portion of Camarines Sur
  • Catanduanes

Classes have been suspended in some areas in anticipation of the the rains and inclement weather.

The weather bureau said "Jenny" was 395 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes—or 525 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte—as of early Tuesday morning and moving at 25 kph.

It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Moderate to heavy rains in parts of Luzon

"Jenny" will bring moderate to heavy rains over the following areas from Tuesday morning to evening:

Bicol Region
Samar Provinces
Quezon
Bulacan
Nueva Ecija
Aurora
Nueva Vizcaya
Quirino
Isabela
Cagayan

"Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains will affect over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas, and the regions of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Bangsamoro," PAGASA also said.

Forecast Position

Wednesday morning: In the vicinity of Alfonso Castañeda, Nueva Vizcaya
Thursday morning: 590 km west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan (Outside Philippine Area of Responsibility)
Friday morning: 985 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur (Outside PAR)
