MANILA, Philippines — Workers who will opt not to work today will not get paid, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

In an advisory, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the “no work no pay” policy shall apply during special non-working holiday.

“Unless there is another company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on special days, the no work, no pay policy shall apply,” Bello said.

Aug. 21 or Ninoy Aquino Day has been declared as a special non-working holiday.

Under the rules, those who will report for work shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work.

For work done in excess of eight hours, Bello said, this shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the employee’s hourly rate.

According to DOLE, employees who work on a special holiday that falls on their rest day shall be paid an additional 50 percent of daily rate on the first eight hours of work.

Overtime work on a special holiday that also falls on a rest day shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the worker’s hourly rate.
