MANILA, Philippines — The entire country may experience rains on Sunday due to the two shallow low pressure areas and the southwest monsoon.

“Ang buong bansa mula Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao ay naapektuhan ng habagat at ng trough noong dalawang shallow LPA. Magiging maulap po ang kalangitan sa buong bansa at asahan po natin magkakaroon ng kalat-kalat na ulan, pagkidlat, at pagkulog,” PAGASA weather specialist Gener Quitlong said.

(The whole country, from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, is being affected by the southwest monsoon and the trough of the two shallow LPAs. We will experience cloudy skies in the rest of the country and we should expect scattered rain showers and thunderstorms)

In its latest public weather forecast, PAGASA said it is monitoring two shallow LPAs, whose trough or extension is affecting the country.

“Shallow—ibig sabihin mababa pa ito sa low pressure area. Hindi pa ganoong esablished ‘yung mga sentro nitong nasabing weather system,” Quitlong said.

(Shallow—meaning it’s weaker than a low pressure area. The center of this weather system is not yet established.)

The first shallow LPA is already inside the Philippine area of responsibility.

Early Sunday, this shallow LPA was located 210 kilometers east-southeast of Casiguran, Aurora.

On the other hand, the second one was at 1,125 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar as of 3 a.m. Sunday, near the border of PAR but still outside the country's jurisdiction.

The second shallow LPA is expected to enter PAR within the day.

Quitlong clarified that of the two shallow LPAs, only the one outside PAR has the potential to become an LPA. Both are not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone.

The weather specialist added that the first one may make landfall on northern Luzon but will eventually dissolve from there.

PAGASA has not issued a gale warning thus fisherfolk and seafarers are safe to sail.
