MANILA, Philippines — Satellite voter registration will be held in schools and malls to reach out to new voters, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced yesterday.

The poll body will resume voter registration from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30 for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections scheduled in May 2020.

The registration will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, including holidays.

Teopisto Elnas, director of the Election and Barangay Affairs Department, said the registration would not be confined to Comelec local offices in cities and municipalities as they target some two million registrants.

“We will be using satellite registration venues such as malls and schools to reach out to new registrants,” Elnas said.

He said those who are currently registered as SK voters do not have to sign up for the barangay polls when they turn 18. Their names will automatically be transferred to the regular list of voters.

Aside from registration of new voters, the Comelec will also accept applications for transfer and reactivation of registration.
