MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is seeking P14.8 billion worth of infrastructure projects for the police modernization program.

“These proposed projects would go a long way in enhancing effectiveness and productivity of the PNP in performing our mandated law enforcement and public safety functions,” PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde said yesterday.

Maj. Gen. Edwin Roque, director of the PNP Directorate for Logistics, said they have submitted the necessary documents to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) over the weekend for funding.

“All pertinent documents and requirements are already submitted to the DPWH for final validation for the 2020 prioritization program,” he said.

A total of 291 proposed infrastructure projects in all of the PNP’s 17 police regional offices are in the proposal, including 117 projects worth P11.018 billion in Luzon.

Roque said 104 projects worth P1.85 billion are in Mindanao while the remaining 70 in the amount of P1.96 billion are for police offices in the Visayas.

Included in the proposal are police station buildings, combat simulation facilities, firing ranges, office buildings for provincial police offices, barracks for city and provincial mobile force companies, quarters and dormitories and other buildings.

The DPWH has funded several projects for the PNP, the most recent of which is a five-story multi-purpose car park building at the national police headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Once finished, the structure is expected to ease the woes of police personnel and visitors seeking parking slots in Camp Crame.

The building has 176 parking slots, 12 multi-purpose function falls, a drivers’ lounge, spaces for concessionaires, two elevators, 32 comfort rooms, four ground floor ramps for persons with disabilities, three staircases and an administration building.
