MANILA, Philippines — Three in every five Filipinos prefer to have voter registration in malls, a Twitter survey conducted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed.

Based on the 24-hour Twitter poll initiated by Comelec-Education and Information Department director James Jimenez, 96 or 60 percent of 161 persons preferred voter registration in shopping malls.

Jimenez said this was an indication of the high level of public acceptance of voter registration activities in malls.

He added that the respondents could have considered convenience when they made their choice.

The survey also showed that 32 or 20 percent of the respondents preferred registering in school while 20 or 12 percent prefer to register in Comelec offices.

A total of 13 respondents or eight percent preferred the registration to be done “somewhere else.”

But the survey did not indicate any details about the respondents, who are all users of Twitter.

Jimenez said he would submit the results of the survey to the poll body for consideration.

“My goal is to convince the commission en banc to mandate more (options for voter registration),” he added.

The Comelec may resume voter registration next month for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections next year.
