De Lima ‘happiest in more than 2 years’ after son passes Bar exams
MANILA, Philippines— For detained Sen. Leila De Lima, learning the news that her son passed the 2018 Bar examinations was the happiest day in her over two years in detention.
De Lima’s son, Vincent Joshua Bohol, followed her footsteps and was among the 1,800 new lawyers who passed the 2018 Bar examinations.
"Sweetest congratulations, dear Vincent! So very happy! My happiest day in more than two years. Praise God!” De Lima said in a handwritten note addressed to son last Friday.
“A most glorious day for me and our family...Glory to you, o Lord! Thank you… thank you… thank you,” the senator added, in a separate statement on Sunday.
Like De Lima, Bohol earned his law degree at San Beda College. Her son, however graduated in SBC Alabang in June last year.
De Lima placed eighth in the 1985 bar examinations.
An outspoken critic of the Duterte administration and his controversial war on drugs, De Lima has been detained since February 2017 for allegedly protecting and coddling drug traders inside the New Bilibid Prison during her stint as Justice secretary.
De Lima was charged three counts of violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which she has repeatedly denied and said are politically motivated. —Rosette Adel
