MANILA, Philippines — Candidates especially in the local level in the upcoming midterm election cannot hold their parades along major roads in Metro Manila and must follow traffic rules, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.

They must avoid holding their campaign parades along EDSA, C-5, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon Avenue, Elliptical Road and so-called “Mabuhay lanes” or alternate routes that the agency has identified, MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said in an interview with radio station dzBB yesterday.

Candidates must also inform the MMDA ahead of time if the motorcade traverses or passes the identified major roads so they could be assisted in traffic management, she noted.

Pialago also reminded motorists who would join motorcades to follow traffic rules like wearing helmets when onboard motorcycles and for organizers to avoid noise pollution by refraining from using very loud sound systems.

The MMDA is leaving to the local government units the management of campaign motorcades along inner roads.
