MANILA, Philippines (Updated 8:56 p.m.) — President Rodrigo Duterte displayed his trademark sense of humor during a campaign sortie of the ruling PDP-Laban, cracking jokes about the personal lives of its senatorial bets.

Speaking during a campaign rally in Laguna last Tuesday, Duterte said Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III has two wives like him, alluding to the senator's annulment with his former wife Jewel May Lobaton.

When he realized that Pimentel's wife Kathryna Yu was present during the event, Duterte said: "P***** i**. Nakita ko nga pala si ano. Ma'am… Ayaw ko 'yung una niya. Ah, pangit 'yun. Dapat — tama ka pinalitan mo (Son of a b****. I saw ma'am. I did not like his first wife. She is ugly. You are right to replace her)."

Duterte also teased Sen. Sonny Angara, who he said was never involved in extramarital affairs.

"Wala akong nabalitaan na may kabit, may babae, na ganun. Kaawa naman siya. Para diyan na lang sa awa na 'yan, si Sonny Angara (I never heard any rumor that he has another woman. I pity him)," the president said.

"Kaya tama 'yan magsimpatiya kayo. Biro mo araw-araw, ilang taon na doon ka lang sa isang bahay uuwi. Buti na lang nakatiis ka. (You sympathize with him. Imagine coming home to just one house for several years. Fortunately, you can bear it)," he added.

The president also drew laughter from the crowd when he introduced Sen. JV Ejercito as "Senator Jinggoy." Ejercito is the estranged half-brother of former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, who is also seeking a Senate seat this year.
