MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 has been raised over seven areas in Luzon and Visayas as Tropical Depression Amang maintains its strength and speed, state weather PAGASA said.

As of 10 a.m., “Amang” was spotted 40 kilometers north northeast of Guiuan town or 45 kilometers east southeast of Borongan City in Eastern Samar.

The tropical depression is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 60 kph while moving north at 10 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over:

  • Sorsogon
  • Masbate including Ticao Island
  • Northern Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Samar
  • Biliran
  • Leyte

Winds from 30 to 60 kph or intermittent rains may be expected within 36 hours in these areas. 

Meanwhile, storm signals over Southern Leyte, Bohol, northern Cebu, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands have been lifted.

The state weather bureau said that moderate to heavy rains will affect eastern Visayas and Bicol region today. For tomorrow, moderate to heavy rains may be experienced over eastern Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate.

PAGASA also advised fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts not to venture out over the seaboards of northern Luzon and eastern seaboards of central Luzon, southern Luzon, Visayas, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte due to “Amang” and the surge of northeast monsoon.

“Amang” is forecast to be 50 km south southwest of Catarman, Northern Samar by Tuesday morning. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
