MANILA, Philippines — A Navotas City police officer turned himself in at around 4 a.m. Tuesday morning, Christmas Day, after injuring seven people attending a wake on Christmas Eve in Caloocan City.

According to National Capital Region Police Office chief Guillermo Eleazar, PO1 Danilo Tiempo was inside his house when he heard a commotion outside at around 11 p.m.

Seven were injured by the gunfire, but Eleazar said no one was killed in the incident.

“There was a wake and an occasion with drinks, then a commotion happened,” Eleazar told reporters in Filipino after the incident.

Tiempo told police officers he acted in self-defense after seeing his father bloodied, allegedly by the mob outside of their home.

Eleazar said a 9mm and a .45 caliber handgun was confiscated from Tiempo when he turned himself in the Muñoz police station in Quezon City.

Police identified the victims as Wilmer Cabulao, 36; Oliver Panican, 32; Marvin Borres, 40; Joel Ramos, 37; Jayrold Balais, 28;  Anthony Claid Solero, 29; and a 16-year old.

Balais was named by the suspect as the leader of what Tiempo called the “mob” who allegedly attacked his father. All are being treated for their injuries and are expected to survive.
