MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) spotted yesterday a low-pressure area east of Mindanao that is expected to bring rains over some parts of the region in the next two days.

The trough or extension of the low-pressure area will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani.

PAGASA warned residents of these areas against possible flashfloods or landslides.

As of yesterday afternoon, the weather system was located at 1,465 kilometers east of Mindanao.

But PAGASA said the weather system has a slim chance of developing into a storm.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region and Aurora.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms.
