MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice has asked a Manila court to dsicharge Marcelo Adorco, former aide of confessed drug dealer Kerwin Espinosa, as an accused so he can be a state witness.

Adorco is Espinosa’s co-accused in a conspiracy to commit drug trading case before Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 51.

“The testimony of accused [Adorco] is absolutely necessary as there is no other direct evidence available for the proper prosecution of the offense committed,” the motion read.

State prosecutors added that Adorco’s testimony “can be substantially corroborated in its material points.”

Others facing drug charges are inmate Peter Co, Lovely Impal and Ruel Malindangan.

Cebu-based businessman Peter Lim is also facing drug charges before Manila and Makati courts.

The court held a hearing on the motion on Monday, December 10, and will continue its proceedings on January 14, 2019.
