Makati court asked to junk Trillanes’ travel request

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has asked the Makati regional trial court (RTC) handling the rebellion case of opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV to stop him from traveling abroad due to pending cases filed against him. 

State prosecutor Richard Fadullon said that they filed a motion Tuesday afternoon before the Makati RTC Branch 150, asking the court to stop Trillanes from leaving the country as he is still considered a flight risk. 

Fadullon said that Trillanes is facing not only a rebellion case, but also several other cases in some local courts in Metro Manila. 

“We expected that they will oppose so it comes as no surprise,” Trillanes’ lawyer Reynaldo Robles said in a text message when asked to react to the recent development in the senator’s case. 

Robles recently filed a motion before Makati RTC Branch 150, asking the court to allow Trillanes to leave the country to attend several activities in some parts of Europe and the US. 

He said that Trillanes was invited to attend activities in Amsterdam, Barcelona and London from Dec. 11 to Jan. 12, 2019 and also to attend activities in California, Washington and Maryland. 

Since the DOJ has already submitted its comment to Trillanes’ motion, the motion is now considered submitted for resolution.
