Fickle ‘Tomas’ downgrades into LPA
MANILA, Philippines — Weather disturbance “Tomas” weakened into a low pressure area early Tuesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
“We expect it to further weaken and eventually dissipate,” PAGASA weather forecaster Ezra Bulquerin said.
The center of the LPA was last seen 1,050 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.
But PAGASA still warned that sea travel remains risky over the northern seaboard of northern Luzon due to rough to very rough seas associated with the ongoing surge of the northeast monsoon or amihan.
The fickle weather disturbance, formerly “Tomas” , first entered the Philippine area of responsibility Saturday night as a typhoon but left quickly. It re-entered the country’s jurisdiction early Monday only as a severe tropical storm.
It weakened into a tropical depression Monday night before finally withering into a low pressure area. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
