JBC draws up shortlist for vacant SC post

MANILA, Philippines — The Judicial and Bar Council on Friday released a shortlist for the next Supreme Court associate justice.

Seven Court of Appeals justices have been shortlisted, Justice Secretary and JBC Ex-Officio member Menardo Guevarra confirmed.

CA Justices Manuel Barrios, Japar Dimaampao, Ramon Garcia, Ed De Los Santos, Apolinario Bruselas and Amy Javier got six points each.

Only Justice Rosmari Carandang received five points.

The names will be submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte to select who will take the position vacated by then-associate justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro when she was appointed as chief magistrate.

De Castro hung up her robes last month.
