MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte intends to invite Chinese President Xi Jinping to his home in Davao City when the latter visits the country later this month, presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.

The Chinese head of state will be visiting the Philippines this month after attending the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Papua New Guinea.

According to Panelo, a group of Chinese reporters had asked Duterte if he would invite his Chinese counterpart to his Davao home.

“He was asked whether he will bring Xi to his Davao home. He said, ‘of course,’” Panelo told reporters.

Xi would be the second world leader that Duterte will host at his home in Davao City.

In January 2017, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe spent around 45 minutes at Duterte's home in Davao City during the second day of his official visit to the Philippines.

Japan's top official tried biko and kutsinta, two types of locally made rice cakes, as well as monggo in his visit to Duterte's home.

Duterte also toured Abe to his master's bedroom, where he showed some family photos and the "kulambo" or mosquito net he uses when he sleeps. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
