PAGASA: ‘Rosita’ no effect yet, warning signals may be up Sunday evening

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau on Sunday said that Typhoon Rosita (International name: Yutu) still has no effect in the country despite its entrance to the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

In a press briefing early Sunday, PAGASA weather forecaster Meno Mendoza said "Rosita" currently has no direct effect in the country.

Mendoza, however, reiterated that the typhoon may make a land fall in Cagayan and Isabela by Tuesday. He added that tropical cyclone warning signals are likely to be raised on Sunday evening.

As of 4 a.m., Rosita’s eye was traced 980 kilometers east of Appari, Cagayan.

It is packed with winds of 200 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 245 kph.

Mendoza said the typhoon is moving west at 20 kph and is expected to exit PAR by November 1.

PAGASA warned that rains are expected on Monday onwards.

For Sunday, most parts of the country are expected to experience fair weather with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, residents of northern and central Luzon are advised to remain vigilant on possible landslide and flashfloods.
