Cooler weather ahead as Amihan sets in
MANILA, Philippines — Temperatures are expected to dip in the coming days as the northeast monsoon season begins, the state weather bureau announced yesterday.
Esperanza Cayanan, chief of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather division, said gradual cooling of surface air temperature associated with the northeasterly winds has been observed over Northern Luzon for the past days.
“These meteorological conditions signify that the northeast monsoon season has started,” she said.
Cayanan said the northeast wind flow is expected to intensify further and become the dominant system over most parts of the country, bringing cold and dry air.
“Surges of cold temperatures may also be expected in the coming days,” Cayanan said.
The northeast monsoon season usually starts during the third or last week of October.
The cold season lasts until February or March.
