Veteran elections lawyer Macalintal seeks Senate seat

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo’s legal counsel Romulo Macalintal is seeking a seat at the Senate next year.
Macalintal, a veteran elections lawyer, filed his certificate of candidacy on Wednesday.
The lawyer represents Robredo in the electoral protest filed by defeated vice presidential candidate and former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. The Presidential Electoral Tribunal is conducting a ballot recount on Marcos' selected pilot provinces.
Macalintal earlier said that if given a seat at the Senate, he would push for the rights of senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
The veteran elections lawyer's name was included on the possible list of senatorial candidates by the opposition coalition. — Kristine Joy Patag
