Comelec orders 7 parties to update information

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has ordered seven political parties, including Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), to update their information submitted to the poll body.

Based on Minute Resolution No. 18-0726, the Comelec has directed the HNP and six other parties to submit their Sworn Information Update Statement (SIUS) not later than Sept. 28.

Aside from the HNP, also directed to submit their SIUS are Kilos Mamamayan Ngayon Na (KM NGAYON NA), Serbisyo sa Bayan Party (SBP) and Alliance of Philippine Fishing Federation (ALL-FISH), all based in the National Capital Region.

Also ordered to submit SIUS are Central Luzon-based parties Anak Central (ACP) and Galing sa Puso (GSP), and Davao Region-based 1 Alliance Advocating Autonomy Party (1AAA PARTY).

The minute resolution is a supplement to Comelec Resolution No. 10411, directing parties to correct and update their records.  

It was not immediately known which among the parties have already complied with the minute resolution dated Sept. 5. 

As for HNP, it was found that the group’s name was inadvertently written as “Hukbong ng Pagbabago Party,” instead of Hugpong ng Pagbabago.  

Except for HNP, the six other parties are running in the party-list elections. ?

LP Senate slate

Vice President Leni Robredo said yesterday members of the opposition senatorial slate for the 2019 elections would be selected not only by the Liberal Party (LP) but also by its coalition partners.

Robredo, who chairs the LP, said a shortlist of candidates would be submitted to her next week.

The opposition coalition is composed of the LP, Magdalao, Akbayan and other cause-oriented groups.

“They told me they will submit 18 names. They told me I will have the final say. But I told them the final say will still be a collaborative effort among all of us,” Robredo said in an interview.

Leading the list are re-electionist Sen. Paolo Benigno Aquino IV, ousted chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and former interior secretary Mar Roxas.

Also included are former solicitor general Florin Hilbay, former social welfare secretary Dinky Soliman, former Quezon congressman Erin Tañada, former Malacanang undersecretary Manolo Quezon III, singer/activist Leah Navarro singer/composer Jim Paredes, actor Dingdong Dantes, Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano, former chief justice Hilario Davide, Jr., human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, former Akbayan party-list congressman Ibarra Gutierrez, Marawi-based aid worker Samira Gutoc, actress Agot Isidro, former presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda and election lawyer Romulo Macalintal.  – With Helen Flores
