MANILA, Philippines — The scheduled University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) this weekend will not push through due to the expected effects of Super Typhoon Ompong in most parts of the country.

The UP Office of Admissions said the decision was made following consultation with university officials and weather experts on the latest forecast about the typhoon.

It noted that Ompong will have an impact on Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of the country.

“(The postponement is) in consideration of the nationwide scope of the exam that entails synchronized travel arrangements among others which pose undue risks to both UPCAT examinees and UPCAT personnel,” UP said in an advisory.

“The office will announce a new date as soon as possible and provide instructions to all examinees,” it added.

Thousands of graduating senior high school students are expected to take the UPCAT this year in 85 testing centers nationwide.

Some of those testing centers are located in areas expected to be directly hit by the incoming typhoon, which is so far the strongest to hit country this year.
